SAW has made the final top 3 places at this years forth coming Pembrokeshire Sports Awards, for “Club of the year” embracing all of our members involved in Sports conditioning, Weightlifting, Powerlifting, Strongman, Para Powerlifting, Health and Fitness….

In Disability Powerlifting, Harry Thomas has been first Pembrokeshire athlete to compete in Para Powerlifting, this year he qualified and competed at the British Senior Powerlifting Championships.
Pembrokeshire coaches have been selected for International events. Simon Roach and Jim Horner Welsh team coaches at Para Powerlifting World Cup Championships, Hungary. Jim Horner recently qualified as an International Para Powerlifting Technical Official.
Justin Head and other coaches are involved in the In-Sport events promoting Disability Powerlifting.
The Weightlifters at SAW have had a very good year, James Hart and Chloe Hood both British Gold medallists at Youth British Championships. Anita Madan Bronze medallist, Chloe Hood Silver medallist both at Junior British Championships. Daisy Melhuish Silver medallist at British Senior Championships.
Chloe Hood Gold medal, James Hart Bronze medal, Louis Thomas Silver medal at European Youth event – Austria.
Niamh Roach, Chloe Hood, Louis Thomas, Alex John, James Hart, Anita Madan and Daisy Melhuish represented / representing Wales 2016 / 2017 Celtic Nations.
Darren Rogers and Stephen Donovan recently qualified as International Technical officials. Both officiate for Wales, Great Britain and Internationally. Stephen selected by British Weightlifting and officiated at the European Youth Championships – Kosovo. The International Weightlifting Federation has also selected Stephen to officiate in Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast, 2018.
Alex John – Junior Technical official for Pembrokeshire and Weightlifting Wales, has refereed in both County and National events.
Secondary Schools Weightlifting development programme in collaboration with PCC, LAPA funded, educating coaches and creating clubs and increasing participation within schools.
SAW has one of the highest number of Weightlifters, Volunteer coaches and volunteer officials from a single centre in Wales. Competitive lifters at all age groups u13, u15, u17, u20, u23 and senior. 16 Voluntary coaches, 10 voluntary officials.
Educational programme for volunteer coaches and volunteer Technical Officials. Support for GCSE and A Level students using Weightlifting as examined practical option. The work at SAW is supported by South Pembs Weightlifting Club, Pembroke Dock.
Sports conditioning for Pembrokeshire teams has included Pembrokeshire Schools U18’s, Scarlets West U16’s, County U15’s Rugby squads and Pembrokeshire County Swimming Performance Team. Conditioning programming and support for an array of Pembrokeshire sports people, including Welsh Athletics throws athlete James Tomlinson, Silver medal Commonwealth Youth Games, Bahamans; WRU Kemsley Mathias u18 Welsh capped player, South Africa; Katie Thicker WRU Welsh Squad; And Welsh Judo athlete Ashleigh Barknikel to name a few.
Strongman and Powerlifting athletes have performed extremely well too, with Rory Brown, gaining an impressive 2nd place at Devon Strongman Championships and Indy Singh recently competing in Malta and winning the British Forces World Powerlifting Championships. Indy lifts an extraordinary amount of weight in the Deadlift, Squat and Bench press.
Last but not least, the supportive coaching environment not only benefits sports people but also benefits members wishing to use weights to develop health, fitness and well-being.
